A friend has died. George Gabriel was 91. Before he moved here, he lived in Lexington for 54 years. Among his accomplishments, he was a life member of the Lexington Minute Men. He portrayed Captain Parker for 30 years in the annual re-enactments of the Battle at Lexington. He earned the rank of Commanding Captain and also Chief of Staff. He marched in two presidential inauguration parades for John F Kennedy and Jimmy Carter. He was part of the honor guard that stood attention while President Ford placed a wreath at the foot of the Lexington Green Monument. In 1990 he was he Chief Marshal in the Patriot's Day Parade and Marshal for the Agawam Memorial Day Parade in 2015. For his 90th birthday, a troupe of Minute Men arrived in full dress uniform to honor him. It was impressive!
