My number one, top favorite sweater has what I think is a stain from a black gel pen. For the life of me, I do not know how it happened. It is a prominent spot on the right shoulder. Generally I use Dawn to remove stains but this is not related to grease. On a white fabric I've used Clorox Clean up. This sweater is a khaki beige. I've tried washing the spot area with Dawn under cold water which got rid of some of the ink. I do not know what to do. It is a bulky knit weave. On line, there's talk about using vinegar and also hot water. Both of those could set the stain in. There's GOT to be a way of removing this! Would a carpet cleaner be safe? Dish washer detergent would be meant for food products. This is an over sized, Eddie Bauer man's sweater that can be worn over other layers in frigid weather. I've had it for years and have gotten more compliments on it. I am lost without it.

It might depend whether it is polyester or cotton. Poly tends to hold stains & be harder to clean. I've never used gel pens so I'm not much help. I did google removing gel pen stains from clothing and found this : www.google.ca/search?q=removing+gel+pen+ink+from+cotton&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-ca&client=safariI used to love sweatshirts from Northern Reflections but stains sure impossible to remove because of the way the fabric they use is dyed. Anything I used to get the stain out either didn't work or just removed the dye and left a white spot. Good luck.

Still working on the sweater. The spot is becoming lighter. If it comes down to it, I'll sew a little applique over it.

Applique is always a good idea!

I've been using carpet cleaner on it. Each time it is washed, the spot is a bit less.
