Wendy et. al. have a dog. Her name is Snickers. She's part beagle. (I think she's a female.) The kids discovered her first, fell in love with her and and then introduced her to Wendy declaring their desire to keep her. It was an easy sell. Wendy fell in love with her too. Since then I've been hearing one endearing story after another about Snickers. ........ I was scheduled to meet her this evening. It's Ron's birthday. When I called to check re the time I could show up, I was told Snickers was seriously injured. One of the kids was playing with her late this afternoon. She has a favorite toy which was being tossed. She jumped to grab it, which she loves to do but this time her hind end twisted around and she had a bad landing. Wendy said they heard her bones break. She was in terrible pain. They wrapped her in a blanket to keep her from moving, an act which was painful for her. She broke 2 bones, was put in a temporary splint and sent home with pain meds. Surgery is on Monday. Everyone is glum. Ron's birthday evening didn't happen. They ordered Chinese for supper. Mallarie and Connor went to Connor's place to borrow a crate for Snickers. She can't be allowed to move very much. The whole family has fallen, head over heals in love with this dog. They've had her 2 weeks.

Poor Snickers! How awful for her to have such a serious injury just playing. She's fortunate to have been adopted by such a kind family that will look after all the vet care for her. Ima sap for animals so can totally understand the fall in love part!

Normally I'm not a dog person but I've already heard so many lovable stories about Snickers that it is obvious she is a fully fledged lovable member of our family. As long as she doesn't jump all over me or give me asthma, we're in.
The cats are not at all happy with the situation. They are staying outside. Snickers wants to play and chase. Wendy thinks a cat's claw would teach Snickers some respectful appreciation but the cats are in a major avoidance mode right now.

Oh no! That's awful. I hope she's back on (all) her feet soon. Pets are family.

It was instant family/love at first sight with her.
She had her surgery yesterday and is due home today.

OOhh no!!! Just seeing this now. How is Snickers doing? I adore dogs, but one of the things that I DON'T miss about Kayla is the WORRY I had when she was sick or injured. Have to tell you, I'm amazed Kayla made it to almost 13. That dog when through an entire vet encyclopedia of conditions. Dogs can be incredibly resilient, so I hope this is true for Snickerdoodle. Poor baby.

Yes. Wendy has obviously been deeply affected by this. Another thing is that she works her tail off in mother's hours jobs so that her kids can have their musical instruments and laptops. When I asked about the financial side of things, she flat out said "We're broke!" Screws were used in the surgery. There are more vet visits ahead. There must be pet insurance available.
Something good may come of this. Both cats, Spooky and Charlie, have been avoiding the house. Snickers, being a 9 month old Beagle, loves to chase any and every live critter she sees. She can't now. So the cats are coming inside. This is going to give them a chance to get to know each other.
