My on line capabilities are very limited right now. The Windows (partitioned) side of my computer is completely off line. I am trying to accomplish an OS upgrade on the Mac side but am hitting glitches. The download for El Capitan has failed twice. The downloading will take some time, during which I will need to avoid other on line activity. It is a major download...(6 GB/several hours). It will help with the upgrade of drivers needed for the Windows partition. I am DONE with Norton. GRRRRR! It started with a Norton update download that experienced a hic-up which caused file corruptions. This event is as bad as, or worse than a virus. Norton tech support is abysmal. The Microsoft guy spent at least 2 hours on the phone with me trying to accomplish a system restore which, as it turned out, was unable to work. He suggested upgrading the partition drivers for the Windows side. The new Mac OS has the updated drivers for the Windows partition. The senior Apple techs are just the nicest, most capable, wonderful techs I've ever encountered. So far I've spoken with someone in Texas and Arizona. One of them is scheduled to give me a call back around 11:30 today. By the end of Wednesday I was feeling like there was no capable help or support available to me and was in tears but connecting with the Apple techs has been a real shot in the arm. I really like the tech who will be calling me later so it's a 'sit tight' for the moment.

How frustrating! I hope you get sorted out soon. I no longer deal with any anti-virus software. I have never met a virus that gave me more trouble than the software that's supposed to prevent it.

Oh my goodness Ruff! That sounds like a complete nightmare! I hope by now, you've gotten it all fixed. I'm so glad you were able to reach some decent techs. It often seems like no one really wants to help, they just want you to send in your computer.

Ruffy, although I have no idea what you're talking about, I do feel your pain! If it was t for my IT son, I'd be permanently off line. Hope all is fixed for you now .!
(Written in a booth at Tim Hortons because my internet is down at home & my son is on vacation. I swear it knows when he is away!)

It is NOT fixed yet. Had to upgrade the Apple operating system in order to get the most recent drivers for the Windows partition. If the Window's partition needs to be reinstalled, EVERYTHING there will be removed. It's wipe the slate clean and start over....from scratch. I've been backing up everything.
Will your son have to stop at your place when he's on his way home?

He has access to my computer and talked me through a remote fix that took all of 2 minutes. He's the best!

The best part of this is that you can trust him. Computer techs routinely ask for remote access now. It's insane.
