Can dumplings be made ahead of time and then added to a crockpot recipe? What will happen to them if they are in a crockpot for a long time?
There's a chicken & dumpling frozen Marie Callender dinner I want to try making myself. Sunday is going to be a Polar Vortex style of frigid. It would be a great day for a crockpot dinner. By making this myself, I can sharply reduce the amounts of saturated fat and unnecessary additives.

Hmmm, don't know where my reply went....
I've never done dumplings in a crock pot but don't see why you couldn't put the raw dough on the simmering stew at the end like you do if it was on the stove. Let us know if you try it.
If you're worried, you could transfer the stew to another pot and cook the dumplings on the stove. I do that with an oven stew I make. .It's in the same pot but I put it on the burner, bring it to a simmer and put in the dumplings to cook. Yum!
PS, I used to get big brownie points from Don when I made dumplings because his mother didn't make them. I never told him how quick and easy they are!
