Found a copy of "Capitol Cookies" among my cookbooks today. Uncle Sam is on the cover.
North Carolina's cookie is:
RUSSIAN TEA BALLS
2 cups Crisco Mix (see below) 1 Tbs orange juice 1/2 cup powdered sugar 3/4 cup chopped nuts
Crisco Mix: 1 Tbs salt 6 cups flour 1 pound Crisco
Blend dough well. Make 1-inch balls. Put on ungreased cookie sheet (no grease left) and bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. While hot,, roll in powdered sugar.
Vivian E. credits her grandmother, Vivian J. for this rich recipe.
Submitted by the Chairperson of the First Assembly of God. No doubt they have all assembled before God by now

LOL - I had to read the last line a couple of times before I got it! Interesting recipe - I've never seen these made with a "Crisco mix". It took me back at first because I thought the recipe used the entire 6 cups of flour and a pound of Crisco. That would make a LOT of Russian Tea Balls!

This made me chuckle. At first I was super confused b/c I thought you were recommending a recipe with Crisco in it.
