Recently I had my 2012 Honda back at the dealer and asked them about a problem happening on the inside of my car door. The door is predominantly charcoal gray but the door handle is a silver gray. This door handle piece extends across the width of the door. It's surface has become tacky. It is smeared all over the surrounding door parts and it has become worn through on the handle showing the black surface underneath the coating. One of the service people spotted the yellow tube of sunscreen in a dash cubby hole in my car. I was told the problem happening is caused by the sunscreen. I keep the sunscreen in the car because sometimes I forget to put on and then realize the sun is hitting my arms while driving. Mind you, my arms are not an over slathered sticky at all. I tend to push the door open with the side of my arm when getting out of the car. .......... Also, I've been told by the Honda people that the scented, air freshener Christmas trees that people commonly hang in their cars are the worst for damaging the plastic surfaces inside a car. .... Add to this articles that are showing up stating that a drop of sunscreen can damage and kill off coral reefs! The culprit they say is oxybenzone. I am outside working in my yard every day possible during growing season and use a and SPF 50 RELIGIOUSLY!!!! The application of sunscreen on my face is part of getting dressed in the morning. And yes...It contains 5.0% oxybenzone. What in the world does that stuff do to our bodies?
