I'm sure my psychologist friends would say something about it being a defense mechanism for a fear of commitment or some such. I would call it... bad luck.

Amanda, you live your life to the fullest with a great deal of gusto. If someone comes along that you would like to share that with, wonderful, but if not, so what? If I hadn't met Charlie, I doubt very much I would be married. He loves and appreciates me for who I am and doesn't try to make me be someone other than myself. I know you wouldn't, but don't get yourself hitched to someone who would clip your wings. "Like a bird in a cage, I broke in and demanded that somebody free it." Never be the bird in a cage.

I think I can safely promise never to do that! I am very grateful that I narrowly avoided just such a life in my early twenties, before I even knew myself, but somehow knew that life wasn't right for me! Charlie is great! Perhaps one day I'll find a Charlie of my own. If not, I'm good with just me. And that leaves a lot more room for me to spread those wings, having the house to myself.
