One of the phone/cable companies here has a bundle package for phone and Direct TV. I am very tempted.
What do you think of Direct TV? I know that under certain weather conditions, it may not work. How often is that? How is the reception generally?
One thing that drives me nuts is the lip sync. With my current provider, it can be way off at times. It's completely crazy to hear words coming out of a mouth that isn't doing anything remotely close to what is being heard.

We still have cable at our house. Bought a dish last spring so we could get TV when we stay in the trailer at the property, but it is DISH Network . I do like the DISH better than cable and will probably stay with that when we build our new house, but I don't know how DISH compares with DirectTV.
We have the same sound problems with our cable sometimes, but haven't noticed it on DISH.
Good luck with your decision.

We have DirectTV and love it. We switched from Dish which was awful. DirectTV rarely is "offline" I do not believe we have ever had to have a repair guy out in the 4 years we have had it. The customer service people are great too. Always very responsive and able to answer your questions. Not that we have had to call them much.
Dish was constantly breaking down and we would call them to try to repair. The IT people would walk you through some horribly complicated process which often ended in them having to send someone out. Next month. The bill was ALWAYS wrong. every month I would have to call them and get it corrected, which was almost always a one hour phone call. JUST HATED DISH-NETWORK!!!
But we LOVE DirectTV.

I forgot to mention, no sound problems. However, with really heavy wet snows we do have to get on a ladder and clean the snow off the dish. But that happens only once or twice a winter and would happen with any network.
DirectTV also has many, many more HD channels than the others.
