Last night I watched Part Four. It was too easy to continue on with Part Five.
Lady Mary needs to get her head on straight! She could do herself in. The sibling rivalry between her and Lady Edith is dangerously fierce. Five ended with Edith's note to the Turkish Ambassador. YIKES! I hope, hope, hope it is Anna who finds it.
O'Brien and Thomas ought to go take a walk in all that mud and muck where the horse became stuck! And that would be too good for them. Thankfully Bates and Anna were on the ball re the missing snuff box. ........ The plot re Lady Mary's indiscretion thickens. Why do O'Brien and Thomas even care about that? What's it to them? They are just plain connivingly mean! JERKS!
What is going to happen with poor Mrs. Patmore? Maybe she will end up at the hospital? How did they deal with eye disease in those days? How will they manage in the kitchen? Gracious!
OK.......So I know that Bates and Anna marry because it was in Season's 2 finale but he told her that he is not a free man and there is a Mrs. Bates noted in the cast list who has not yet shown up.
A salute to the Dowager Countess. She gave the rose trophy to Mr. Molesley. I didn't know she had it in her. She is such a character. I love her gumption even when she is over the top. She brings so much color into the canvas.
It's been a long time since there's been a prime time show that I've enjoyed as much as this.

Isn't it wonderful to have such a richly told story with a cast that makes you sad when an episode ends? This is what tv should be! Did you see any of the old Masterpiece theatre series on PBS like Upstairs Downstairs or The Duchess of Duke Street. They were wonderful. Everything stopped on Sunday night so we never missed an episode. There was another one called Brideshead Revisited that I missed when we moved but I think I'll see if I can find it on DVD. With no hockey and very little watchable, it would be a good time to catch up on it.

No. I've not seen any of those. Unless there's a decent movie on, I don't watch very much TV in the evenings. If it is on, it is to catch up on Y&R or perhaps run a DVD of my own. For a while I was watching Dallas but put that away for now. If the weather is warm enough, gardening can last until dark. Supper time and the shower happen after that. Obviously, the PBS programs need more of my attention.
There's a lot going on in Downton. It is not a show that can be running with my face in the computer. Too much is happening. Plus, I need to pay attention and listen more carefully with the Yorkshire accent.

The other series I was trying to think of is The Forsythe Saga, another period drama that was excellent. The DVD's are available and I'd check your library if you're interested.

OK. Thanks. I can check back here in your notes when the opportunity comes. Iris season is going to keep me extremly busy. I should be outside now but it is only 52* and very windy and I don't want to be out there right now. Need to be doing something.

You are moving right along. Go ahead and savor it before you run out of episodes and are stuck in the waiting game!

Well...........Season One is done. It's like this now: Once the DVD goes in, both episodes are going to happen. The waiting game is just over the horizon.
Lady Mary! Sigh. She is so much like the soap divas. They have something wonderful staring them right in the face, but can they go for it? Nooooooooo. She is so hung up, with reason, but no real person would let it get in way. It's been one mixed up blockade after another with her. Poor Matthew.

Lady Mary drives me bonkers with that. Glad to know I'm not alone. Matthew is wonderful!

According to an on line library catalog search, the Forsythe Saga and the Duchess of Duke Street are not available here at all. Both Upstairs, Downstairs and Brideshead Revisited are available through the city's main library.
