It's been a year since GL closed up all the stories and Josh and Reva drove off into Alwaysland. I remember getting up very early to watch the Eastern feed at 7am so I could share it with everyone. It was a sad day, and I still occasionally reach for the remote at 2pm until I realize it's really gone. Did you get some closure on ATWT? Did your favourites end up together or are there still some stories not completed. I'm sure it's a difficult day if you've watched for a long time.

Sad it is. The writing was good right up to the end. It was beautifully done with a lot of beautiful, happily ever after endings. This was Bob Hughes retirement day. He was in his office reminiscing with his voice over giving a narration from his perspective of life in Oak Dale while handling his desk top name plate. (I have my late father-in-law's which is on the bookcase in my dining room.) The show ended with Bob turning out the light in his office and walking out the door. In the now dark deserted office, a spot light gently lit the globe that was on the desk which began to turn. Then a stupid obnoxious ad blasted across the screen and that was that.
I watch very little television. The other soaps have never grabbed me the way GL and ATWT did.

ditto
If they ever came out with DVDs, I'd go for the whole series! Are there recordings of the early shows? They were done live. Wikipedia has an item about the day Kennedy was shot. The show was live and they performed the entire show without knowing what was going on. Walter Cronkite interrupted ATWT to make the announcements.

I was pleased with the ending, except that I always envisioned a "happily ever after" for Katie and Henry rather than Katie/Chris and Henry/Babs. Jack and Carly did get a proper ending, though I missed seeing Parker in the final episode. He's in the "deleted scenes" here: bit.ly/c2k17CI did OK watching the finale. It was very appropriate and I only got misty-eyed once -- when Luke listened to Chris' new heart. (I loved Reid.) That was until the end when Bob and Kim were doing their whole "there's no goodbyes; only goodnight" speech. Then I just sobbed. Before her passing, I'd hoped Nancy would speak the last words of the show, and that it would be "Goodnight, dear" to mirror her "Good morning, dear" that started the show. So, when Bob turned out the light and said "Goodnight," it had such a deep, multi-faceted meaning, and I was touched. I am going to miss this show.
