This idea came off a rack of recipe cards in a grocery store. You run a whole cantaloupe, frozen lemonade concentrate and couple of spoons of 10x sugar through the food processor. Then freeze the slurry in a flat dish. It needs to be shaved/ stirred with a fork about every hour. Then you can serve it in individual bowls with a mint leaf and a sprinkle of coconut. It's great!
I thought the lemonade over powered the flavor of the melon but different combinations and proportions of fruits and things can be used. Because of all the family visiting that has just happened here, I have too much left over fresh fruit salad in my fridge. It could go bad. However I just made a slurry of the fruit salad with a little 10x sugar and a couple of spoons of Minute Maid's frozen berry concentrate. The mix tastes a lot like a smoothie. It's in the freezer now. I love a bowl of frozen something on a hot summer day. Usually I love peppermint ice cream with hot fudge, but the 'shaved' frozen fruit ice will do very nicely.
(It's great with a cookie .... or two cookies.)

What a great idea!! I'll have to try that. Sounds like a great way to get some fruit and something cold and yummy too! (Love the cookie addition too!! ;D )

That does sound good Sounds like something to be made for when family gathers, though, as I can't imagine that much at home with just me. On a side note about the fresh fruit salad left overs. I generally freeze what ever fresh fruit I have that is more than I can eat in a zip lock baggie. WHen I'm ready for a smoothie , I take a cup of v8-fusion, 1/2-1 cup of the frozen fruit (just break off a chunk- or freeze it into cups in an ice cube tray if you'd rather) and 1 cup yogurt and stick it in the blender until it's all slushy smooth. Yumm!! (makes for a great breakfast or afternoon snack after a workout or gardening) Never thought about using cantaloupe, though...

Smoothies are always fabulous.
The cantaloupe ice, or fruit salad ice is something that can be spooned into a dish. It's like having a bowl of sherbet, only better. I just had a bowl while sitting here at the puter. It is very refreshing. I love the crispy ice crystal texture of it. Watermelon would be delicious this way.
