With the news that Katie Couric signed with ABC to do a talk show starting in Sept 2012 that has been cleared by 8 ABC owned stations so far to air in GH's timeslot, you can pretty much take it to the bank that it will be a goner come Sept 2012. (and at least one trusted insider has been saying this for months now).
And then there will be 3.............

Pretty soon there won't be any soaps left. I still think of 2 pm as GL time.

What a shame. I really, really like Y&R now. I want some plain old entertainment off the tube. This is so nutty. How many talk shows can we take? No one will top Oprah. Some of the best prime time shows have been soaps.

It's a genre that's on life support and the networks are about to pull the plug. I still mourn GL. It was more than entertainment, it was a connection to my grandmother and to my sons. Now they wax nostalgic about it and we reminisce about some of the wackier story lines. I really miss it!

I'm with you Karen, I still mourn our GL. I can't get attached to another soap, I tried. My dad is an avid Y&R fan and I watched a long long time ago, but I just can't get into it. I also tried to watch where Kim Zimmer went, but it wasn't for me. Sad

I don't usually visit this room, but had a minute this morning. It is amazing how much I still miss GL. A funny thing that I noticed the other day is I still have many residual behaviors around watching GL. For example I noticed the other day I usually get home about 2-ish when ever I can. I was thinking now why do I do that? Well, I think it is because that way I get to watch GL live. ALso on days when I can't get home by 2, I often arrive home about 4. This way I can watch GL on tape, and still have time to fix dinner for the family. I must be doing this from my subconscious after a life time of watching GL, and now even though the show is gone, I still plan my days around watching. Too weird.
Also, is it just me or is there NOTHING on TV lately? I have been primarily watching the History channel. American Pickers, the restoration guys and the gun maker guys on the Discovery channel. HGTV seems to have gone to all House Hunters" all the time so I rarely watch that network.
Even FOOD network has gone all "challenge" (of some sort) all the time and I find those shows boring.
E-TV is all "Sex and the City" all the time this summer. Even "Kendra" is on hiatus. And that is just plain bad, complaining that "Kendra" is off air. Not exactly and intellectual stimulant, that show.
Guess that explains my sex crazed book reading this summer! (See thread under Circle of Friends)
No TV worth watching!!!

Boy, big agree, Lib. I'm a sports fan so I'm still in a hockey withdrawal but I love Canadian football and the season starts today. Baseball fills in a bit of mindless time. I find I'm watching the design and house hunter shows on HGTV but I'm just about saturated with that too. The only night time program I watch is So You Think You Can Dance, but always on the PVR so the 2 hour show is about an hour without the commercials and half of the judges banter.
I'm still 'looking' for GL at 2pm too. Old habits die really hard!

I think USA is the only place to find TV in the summertime, and they have some pretty solid offerings.
White Collar is my favorite (with our Ben Reade!), but I've sampled a few of their others shows and liked them.
