For the most part, I'm OK with it except I thought that with Molesley's departure, the door would be open for Barrow to return to Downton. Then Carson would go off into this sunset still holding the reins at Downton. In my head, Carson isn't the type of person who would enjoy retirement. He has a huge sense of purpose in preserving the elegance and tradition in the "status" quo. It is who he is. His purpose is greater than his person. What is he going to do with himself from now on? Perhaps this is symbolic. Given the times, the status quo needs to retire or fade, and with that, its stalwart perpetuator. And maybe this argument is a hill of beans since the position of head butler has been preserved with Barrow as Carson's replacement.
Has there been talk of a movie?

I haven't heard anything of a movie, and honestly, they wrapped things up into such a neat little bow that I wouldn't want a movie to come along and potentially unravel any of that. I can't think of anything I'd have wanted to happen by the end that didn't occur. They even gave us a little hint at a potential future love for my dear Tom Branson. I'm glad it was just a hint, because I don't know if the viewers would've wanted to see him with anyone who was not Sybil. I know I would've turned my nose up at that a bit, but it was nice to give us a peripheral character that we liked and then just suggest she might be a good match for him. Edith got her happy ending FINALLY, Barrow got to come home and get what he's always wanted professionally, which I hope will tide him over until he's able to find/have what he wants personally. Even awful Mary got a happy ending with a man much too good for her.

I thought it wrapped up very nicely. I was a little confused by the woman Tom the former chauffeur seemed to be hitting it off with. She looked like Rose? but she wasn't? I missed last season, so maybe something happened in America? Glad Maggie Smith didn't die. :-)

RE a movie: The time frame could be moved forward enough for the kids to be grown some.
I've seen an article in which Julian Fellowes says he would be more than happy to write for a Downton Abbey movie.

Karen, that was the woman that Edith hired to run the newspaper with her, so we mostly saw her interact with Edith, but she talked some with Tom at the race track (and I got the impression from their interactions we were meant to understand they'd met before, but I don't remember exactly) and then she turned up again at the wedding.

She looked a lot like the woman from America. They all look the same in hats, LOL!

I didn't know who she was either.
